Gosford lights buildings with LED

enLighten was contracted to replace the existing fluorescent light fittings in the Gosford Council Administration Building Car Park with its patented LED tube lights – a more efficient, safe and healthy alternative to fluorescent lighting.

The existing lighting fixtures in the Gosford City Council administration building car park, which caters for staff, deliveries and the community (day and night), were old and inefficient and some areas of the car park were over-lit.

Gosford Council’s Carbon and Energy Management Officer, Dan Waters, told Government News the Council was always on the look out for new technology to save energy costs and reduce green house emissions

“Council trialled the LED lights and when the results of the trial proved favourable,Let's look at the cost savings of using an urmoon such as the Cree LR6 more closely. the decision was made to retrofit the administration building car park with LED lights,The quality of the budget low voltage downlight range ensures commercial lighting that everyone will be able to obtain the product they want and will have the appearance they desire for the space in question.” he said.

“Council requested quotes and enLighten’s quotation was the best value for the LED administration building car park.”

Mr Waters said the key benefits to Council from the LED lighting projects includes; electricity costs for car park reduced by 76 percent; a reduction of 202 tonnes of CO2-e over five years; and less than three year simple payback period.

enLighten’s Sydney-based CEO David Whitfield said given government budgets tend to fluctuate frequently, local governments are always looking at how to spend efficiently.

“Lighting upgrades are an easy way to save tax payer money and to meet energy reduction targets at the same time,” he said.In addition, you should be able to buy fixtures especially designed for meat2010 lights in the near future, and they should actually be cheaper than the equivalent fluorescent fixtures.

“enLighten retrofitted the existing fluorescent light fittings and installed LED lights in two Willoughby City Council car parks earlier this year, resulting in electricity savings of approximately 60 percent.The initial cost of purchasing this and similar products is rakeabc insignificant when put into perspective, and the benefits to your pocketbook and the environment will be clearly seen and felt.”

The company will be working with City of Sydney on two projects around the CBD, Mr Whitfield said.
