Phillips Compact Fluorescent Bulbs Make Your Bills Shrink

Phillips Compact Fluorescent Bulbs Make Your Bills Shrink

In this article we will talk about compact fluorescent light bulbs and take as an example the Phillips compact fluorescent light bulb. Before we start, you should know that compact fluorescent light (usually abbreviated CFL) bulbs can help you save money on your electric energy bill each month. Before we explain how,led bulb you should have some background information about this technology. So let's start by explaining how CFL works and its history.

Every Phillips compact fluorescent bulb you see implements an innovative technology. Each and every one of them is a marvelous piece of engineering designed to minimize energy loss and be as efficient as possible. CFLs first appeared back in the 90s and when they hit the market, people bought them in large numbers. However, back then, the only light available was a dim and rather antiseptic light that was no match for the incandescent light bulbs. Now, fluorescent lamps come with different light colors and consume less than one third of what a traditional bulb consumes and many people say that their light is even better than that of old, energy consuming lamps.

Now imagine that a high end CFL bulb, like the Phillips compact fluorescent one, can consume 24 watts to provide the same brightness as an incandescent consuming 150 watts. Isn't that what economy is all about? And in these dark times, money don't grow on trees anymore, sort of speaking. And this is why the CFL industry is booming. Wal-Mart hopes to sell 100 million of these bulbs by the end of the year. If you consider the fact that an average US household has 45 incandescent lamps, simply by replacing them, owners save $180 in electricity per year.

Another interesting fact about CFLs in general and Phillips compact fluorescent lamps in particular is the fact that each type has its own color temperature. The lower the temperature, the warmer the light. To produce a soft white light,Led down light the CFL must have a color temperature of about 2700 K, while for daylight-like lamps, energy saving light the color temperature must be around 3400 K. Real sunlight, led strip measured an noon, led lighting is in the range of 5000 to 6500 K. If you fear manufacturers might be lying when stating their product's brightness and color temperature, fear no more! We have tested many of them and all are almost correct (within a 1% to 5% error margin).

Please note that Phillips compact fluorescent lamps, like all the other CFLs, contain mercury to increase their efficiency. This is why you should properly recycle them not just throw them away. They save you hundreds of dollars a year but you should be careful where you buy them from and where you dispose of them. The best place to buy CFLs is Home Depot.
